Customer Communication

The Three Ownership Questions of Customer Equity

To determine if your customer relationship is "your asset," ask these three questions:

1. **Reach Authority**—Can I contact this customer directly without any middleman?
2. **Data Authority**—Can I fully export the customer's contact information and transaction history?
3. **Relationship Carrier**—In the customer's mind, do they recognize "my shop" or "that platform"?

If the answer to all three is "Yes," the asset is yours. If any answer is "No," a portion of your business is merely rented.

In pet grooming, the reminder system is critical because **follow-up reminders are the highest-frequency customer touchpoint** (occurring every four to six weeks, see [Pet Records](/en/articles/pet-record-4-weeks)). Whichever channel handles your highest-frequency touchpoint is where your equity accumulates.

The Last Mile of Reminders: Are Clients Adding Your Account or the Platform's?

Both are follow-up reminders, but there is a massive difference between sending one from your official business account versus a third-party platform notification. In five years, one becomes your customer equity, while the other remains an algorithm you can never own. This is the asset mindset of channel selection—the most technical decision is often the most strategic.
